On this day, we left Napa Valley to drive to San Francisco. Along the way, we stopped at Muir Woods.
On the drive from Napa to Muir Woods, I got sooooo car-sick. Thank goodness I didn't throw up, but see that red shawl Treslyn's wearing? She rescued it from the back seat in case of any projectiles. The road to Muir Woods had so many twists and turns, my stomach was doing flip-flops the entire time.
Stepping into Muir Woods felt like a magical journey into a fairy woodland. If I closed my eyes, and ignored the hundreds of other people walking around, I could imagine a tree dryad peeking around a branch.
The trees were HUGE. Too bad my little point and shoot camera couldn't do justice to the immensity and weight of those woods.
Hard to imagine that those towering, massive guardians started from wee, tiny pinecones like this.
I couldn't get over how much cooler it was from Napa. We went from 102 degree weather, to jacket and scarf weather.
Yay! We made it to San Francisco and I can get out of the car! Here's a shot of Maria riding the trolley.
Dinner that evening was at The Slanted Door, a modern Vietnamese restaurant. I was so looking forward to going here, but ended up a bit disappointed. The cooking was okay but my mom's is better. I also noticed that I was one of only a few Asians in that restaurant.
For dessert we had their Confectioner's Plate which comes with this giant ball of pineapple cotton candy! Such a fun dessert to share with your friends. I've got lots of silly photos making "faces" with the candy.
Just wanted to comment on the weather of San Francisco. It was COLD! Like in the 50's and 60's cold. Now Im sure my mainland friends out there will think this is nothing but Im a Hawaii gal and I was FREEZING! That first evening I wore a dress with a long overcoat, scarf, and boots but forgot to wear pantyhose or leggings. Believe me, I never forgot again! That wind whipped right up my dress. Chilly and chapped thighs are no fun...
Tomorrow we'll be checking out the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building, Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower, and City Lights.
I remember stopping by Muir Woods a few years ago! Such a beautiful place and the trees are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about the freezing weather! I think what makes it really cold too is that it's so windy.
Seems like you had a really wonderful trip. Can't wait to see your next post! :)
(And just FYI, it's taken me 3 tries to leave this comment!)
I've lived in SF twice, pre-school and post-HS, and I LOVE it. No place like it. Then my folks lived an hour North, in Santa Rosa, for many years. Your posts make me want to take a road trip!!
