I recently found this video tutorial from Jennifer McGuire (BTW, doesn't she make the best video tutorials?!?!) on how to use your Glossy Accents as a permanent mask. Here's a card I did using this technique.
The stamps are from Waltzingmouse Asian Gardens and Additions. Patterned paper is from My Minds Eye and PTI's Bitty Box. I used three different colors of distressing ink to get the grass, sky, and shading around the tree. I decided to put the sentiment on the inside, "Into every garden a little rain must fall."
Here's a close up of the tree. I did a lot of different things to get this effect so Im gonna list them here:
1. I first used the kissing technique on my tree trunk stamp with Hero Art's woodgrain background stamp.
2. I then re-stamped the image again in Lightining Black Brilliance ink to give it a subtle glittery shine (the photo doesn't really capture that).
3. After letting it dry, I then applied a thick layer of glossy accents over the image and let that dry overnight.
4. Next came all the distress inks and blend, blend, blend!
5. Over this I stamped my Text-Style background stamp (from PTI, I wanted the small font size) in Tea Dye ink.
6. Then I stamped the bridge image.
It was a lot of steps and more complicated than I orginally thought (you know how fast Jennifer goes in her videos. Real life is not like that, lol!). But it satisfied the shabby, chic-y, vintagey part of my soul. This is what's fantastic about cardmaking. It allows you to explore all the different moods of yourself. The day I made this card I was thinking about Stevie and feeling nostalgic. This card allowed me to express that mood perfectly.
If you ever decide to try this technique, I'd love to see what you do. Just leave a link in the comments and I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for stopping by!
